As far back as I can remember, the world of fantasy has always been this great escape for me. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest and California, my childlike wonder had swathes of forests, mountains, rivers, deserts, and the sea as the canvas upon which I could paint my fantasies.

A dragon could be lurking behind Mt. Washington. Those Douglas Firs were actually faerie-sentinels, vigilant, disguised. The desert could be a great battlefield. The sea must’ve had the kraken underneath.

It helped that I had such a rich literary upbringing, starting off with C.S. Lewis, quickly graduating to Lord of the Rings. After that, it was a steep descent into a Song of Ice And Fire, Robert Jordan’s Wheel Of Time, anything written by Brandon Sanderson, Patrick Rothfuss (give us the third book already, Pat!), Pierce Brown, and Joe Abercrombie.

So you can only imagine that after spending a lifetime with my face buried in books, I eventually decided to write a series that has been a long time brewing in my mind.

The Emberheart Chronicles tells the story of a land torn by war. These are stories of love, heartbreak, sword and sorcery, dungeons and dragons (wink wink), and a lil bit of spice, because what is life without some spice?
